Wildlife You Might See on the Lagoon
Our Banana River boat tours cover the shallow flats and mangrove channels of the Thousand Islands, part of the Indian River Lagoon system that runs most of Florida’s east coast. Sightings shift with season and conditions, so nothing is promised. But these are the regulars.
Bottlenose Dolphins
Resident pods feed and play alongside the boat, often the first sighting of the trip.
Manatees
Slow grazers in the shallows year-round. Cocoa Beach manatees are easiest to find in cooler months, when they gather in the warmer lagoon water.
Herons
Herons stalk the shallows along the Thousand Islands, standing perfectly still until the strike.
Ospreys
Ospreys circle high above the Banana River, then fold into a dive and hit the water feet-first.
Manatee tours in Cocoa Beach are not a separate trip here. Manatees are part of the same 2.5-hour wildlife run, alongside the dolphins and the birds.
One Dock, About an Hour From Orlando
Every trip leaves from 333 W Cocoa Beach Causeway. There is one departure point and parking is free.
Guests drive in from across Central Florida. Orlando sits about 60 miles west, a straight run down the 528 that takes roughly an hour, which makes this an easy day out from the theme parks. It is also one of the simpler Cocoa Beach excursions to fit around a day at Port Canaveral, and Kennedy Space Center is just up the road.
Other Ways to Get on the Water

Yes. Both share the same water here, so one 2.5-hour trip covers dolphins and manatees along with wading birds, rays, and coastal fish. Manatee sightings pick up in cooler months.
Where can you swim with manatees in Florida?
Not on the Banana River. Manatees are protected and we watch them from the boat without approaching or touching them. Swim-with-manatee experiences are run in spring-fed rivers elsewhere in Florida.
